Strategic and Business Impact

EU policy orientations on road safety 2011-2020, the PANOPTIS solution expects to make significant steps trough the development of a user-driven solution for highways/road inspections.

– Increase market readiness of emerging ICT solutions for roads/highways inspection: through the development and validation of the modular PANOPTIS solution and its true evaluation and benchmarking in the actual operational environment of the transport industry. The overall system as well as the system modules are expected to be developed reaching a high TRL of 5 to 6 (system prototype demonstration in operational environment – system complete and qualified) and provide thus a close-to-market product with increased readiness.

– Contribute to large-area inspection market of the transport and civil-infrastructure industry: through the validation of the developed capabilities, we expect to significantly contribute with a ready-to-market product towards large area inspection for transport highways but also on other transportation infrastructure, e.g., railways and urban road network, and civil infrastructure, such as water pipes.

– Support the integrated terrestrial and airborne systems uptake for inspections by the transport industry: through appropriate demonstration activities that will actually bring more light to the capabilities of modern systems and their actual robustness that will in-turn support the specific ICT market.

– Target higher growth rates for small and mid-scale companies in EC and reduce barriers-to-entry in the market as well as increase commercial investments in the field. This will be achieved though the introduction of an end-user customized and validated product with a modular approach that will particularly aid small-mid-scale institutions to further exploit the developed foreground contributing to their faster growth.
